Directions: I-91 North, exit 35A – Left at end of ramp to Route 218 West for 4 miles to left on Rte 189. Campus is two miles on left. At entrance, take first left until stop sign, turn right. Follow signs to K Visitors parking area. Park car and walk towards the University Green and the three flag poles. Entrance to the Gray Conference Center is across the courtyard. Enter at the second set of double doors on your right. The CQIA banner should be nearby. Continue to 1877 Club.

- 8:45 – 9:15 Registration, Continental Breakfast and Poster Set-up. All participants will receive the 17th Annual CQIA. Benchmarking book, “2011 Connecticut Best Practices” with 2011 winning CQIA Innovation Prize applications and contact information.
(Table top posters promoting winning organization’s product, service or process innovation. Posters larger than 11”x17” will need support).

SECOND MORNING PROGRAM – The Business of Innovation. Douglas Quine, Ph.D., president Triskelion Ltd, Bethel, Jyoti Chhabra, Ph.D., senior scientist, Hartford Hospital and Steve Glick, president, Chamber Insurance Trust designed eleven questions for the Business of Innovation speakers.
- 10:30 – 10:40 Terry Fogarty, General Manager, Unmanned K-MAX Helicopter System, Kaman Corporation, Bloomfield. How do you get internal/external management approval/support for an “out of the box” high risk innovation with a long payback cycle? How do you protect intellectual property while partnering with industry leaders?
- 10:45 – 10:55 Bob Torrani, Director, Manufacturing & Supply Chain Initiative, Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc., (CCAT), East Hartford. How do you demonstrate the savings of business practice changes requiring investment to entrenched upper management? Use examples from your experience. How is the surrounding environment conducive for creativity?
- 11:00 – 11:10 Dennis Peterlin, Program Director, New Product Development, Energizer Personal Care, Milford. How do you address concerns that new better products will cannibalize current lucrative products which are paying the bills? Do your winning groups work as teams or individually on an idea or concept?
- 11:15 – 11:25 Tony Bosco, Director Customer Finance Cartus, Danbury. If your organization ever suffered a business reversal, please explain the process that led to recovery and the lessons learned from that experience.
- 11:30 – 11:40 Boehringer Ingelheim, Ridgefield. How do you empower employees to allocate time to work on the really high potential personal projects that excite them and will benefit the company while also accomplishing their ongoing tasks?
- 11:45 – 12:00 Bring buffet lunch to adjoining 1877 Club.
- 12:00 – 1:15 Networking Lunch. No two people from the same organization may sit at the same gold CQIA Innovation Prize hosted table. (rigorously encouraged)
- 1:15 – 1:30 Individual and group pictures taken of winning organizations with their CQIA Innovation Prize plaques.
